What are Device Instance and Data Instance, and do I need to configure them?

For most users, no configuration is required.

When pairing a new device, veLink automatically assigns a unique Device Instance that is not already in use by another connected device. This allows multiple devices of the same type to coexist on the NMEA 2000 network without conflicts.

If needed, advanced users can modify these settings at any time using the new Edit button—there is no need to unpair and pair the device again.

What is the difference between Device Instance and Data Instance?

• Device Instance identifies a physical device on the NMEA 2000 network. It is used to distinguish multiple devices of the same class and function.
• Data Instance identifies individual data sources transmitted by the same device. For example, a battery monitor may transmit separate battery status PGNs for Battery 0 (input) and Battery 1 (output).

To keep the setup simple for most users, Data Instance is only available in the Edit menu, where it can be adjusted by advanced users if required.
